I bought this as a second gift to give with a package of dinosaurs. It turned out to be my favorite gift to give. The mat (vinyl) is brightly colored and somewhat padded. The four corners are creased and fold up to form a square box. Then there is a separate lid to pop on the top. There are straps on the sides to keep the lid on. I think for a 3 to 7 year old who likes dinosaurs it is a great gift. They can take the toys with them in the car, to a friends house, outside to play. Having the box and lid, I assume, encourages the child to put their toys in it to carry them around.
